Circles of Impact: the National CofE Funerals Conference 2019

7-8 June, National Agricultural Centre, Stoneleigh Park

The next few years are going to see an absolute increase in the number of deaths in the population, even as our culture begins to recognise the impact that bereavement has on mental health and well-being.  Churches can be at the forefront of responding to this need through our spaces, communities and pastoral care, which is why this conference is focusing on this important issue which affects every parish and ministry.

Revd Canon Dr Sandra Millar, Head of Life Events for the Church of England

The  conference programme draws on the expertise and experience of a wide-range of practitioners to help us think about how churches are there for those who are affected by a death, whether recent or long ago. Amongst others, we are going to be hearing from:

  • Ben Green, the Diocesan Youth Officer in Blackburn, who was involved in work with three schools following the Manchester Arena bombings.
  • Harry Hobson, Strategic innovation consultant, helping us think about remembering someone who has died in a digital age
  • Juliet Stephenson, who is the Director of the Good funeral Company in Liverpool and has been thinking about how the church responds to funerals where there is no-one to grieve.

There will also be an opportunity to visit the National Funeral Exhibition, meet other organisations providing pastoral care and talk with fellow professionals.

The conference costs just £90 including VAT until 28 April (Full price £115). Delegates will need to find their own overnight accommodation and there is a link on the event website to suggested accommodation options We will also be offering a conference dinner on the Friday evening for delegates who would like to continue discussing their thoughts and reactions informally. There is an option to book for a single day only at £50 until 28 April and £60 after that date.

This event is ideal for lay and ordained people who are concerned with their community, with well-being and with offering bereavement care and space to remember.
